Jan Wagner and Hans Schwarz were visiting Jian Lin, PhD at the Technical University IUT Robert Schuman in Illkirch-Graffenstaden near Strasbourg, France. The two scientists of the AG near-surface geothermal energy had loaded 400-500 kg of soil material from a test field in Bad Nauheim and wanted to install it in the irrigation machine developed there in Strasbourg in the context of a BayFrance grant. With the help of this apparatus it is possible to rain a specific amount of water over a defined surface area. Thus, infiltration rates of different soil substrates can be precisely determined. These values are of particular importance for the classification of potential environmental damage and for the overall assessment of the expected geothermal potential of the soil body. The results are supposed to be published scientifically in the near future.
